A steep, unusable site with a dark patio and crumbling slate floor became an entertainer’s dream. The rear garden now has multiple entertaining and seating areas to enjoy the expansive park views.

The new patio boasts a larger footprint with greater ceiling height, flooded with light thanks to the Velux skylights. Retaining and terracing has created a flat lawn and trampoline area the kids had always dreamed of.

The hero of the design is the beautiful cantilever concrete stairs that form the visual spine and make navigating the steep site a breeze. When lit at night, the stairs transform into a sculpture.

I called this project the retro resort because it embodies the relaxed Queensland lifestyle with a retro twist to suit the aesthetic of my wonderful clients.
